Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5–2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
- 8 ounces hot filtered water
- 1–1.5 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2–1 teaspoon honey or agave, optional
- Small pinch lemon zest, optional garnish
- 3–4 ice cubes, optional for serving cold
Instructions
- Heat the filtered water to 160-180°F.
- Measure the matcha powder into a matcha bowl or standard mug.
- Add about 2 ounces of hot water to the matcha powder.
- Whisk immediately in an M or W pattern for 30-60 seconds until frothy and smooth.
- Slowly pour in the remaining hot water.
- Stir gently until the matcha is evenly distributed.
- Add the fresh lemon juice.
- Stir in the freshly ground black pepper until evenly combined.
- Taste and add honey or agave if desired.
- Stir until the sweetener dissolves fully.
- Pour the lemon pepper matcha into a serving cup.
- Garnish with a tiny pinch of lemon zest if desired.
- Serve immediately while hot.
- For an iced version, add 3-4 ice cubes and stir gently before sipping.
Notes
Use water below boiling to avoid scorching the matcha. Sift the matcha powder before whisking for the smoothest texture. Add lemon juice only after the matcha has been whisked so the foam forms properly.
